Filming Our First Advert (Toothpaste)

On Monday 21st January, we will be filming our final first advert (toothpaste) We will start the filming in the morning when it is light, although it is not very bright due to the time of year we will just have to work with this. We will film the majority in the morning, and then in the evening we will film the start of the advert which is Kate washing her paintbrushes, as it gets dark very early we won’t have to wait too long for us to be able to film this.

What to prepare:
Costume- t-shirt for painting and black leggings, white robe, work uniform
Nutella for Kate to rub on her teeth
Neighbours costume-
Bag of rubbish- this is what the neighbour is putting in her bin
Tripod
Camera

The weather conditions may affect our filming, as we are filming outside we won’t be able to film if it is snowing. If this happens we will still be able to film the beginning of the advert, however we will have to reschedule to film the ending. Hopefully this won’t be the case.

Alterations To The Sponsorship Advert

After we filmed a short draft of the idea we had for the sponsorship we noticed that the storyline wasn't clear and the audience might struggle with this. At the moment it is not clear that the couple are on a date, it could look as if they are a married couple, and it is also not clear that it is the man that has cooked the meal as the dishes are already on the table. We also noticed that it could potentially look as if he purposely cooked with dog food perhaps to poison her, this would give a completely different message and would confuse the audience when the slogan appears.
Due to this, we have recreated the storyboard which we still have to upload to our blogs. We are using the exact same storyline but having more shots in order for it to make sense. We will have quick shots of the man cooking the food, the door bell ringing and him greeting his date. In the clips of the man preparing the food we will show him adding a couple of ingredients from tin- chopped tomatoes, a sauce. It is here we will show the tin of dog food, a tin with a yellow label, however we won’t show that it is actually dog food this is just to introduce the tin and show it being added to the meal. It is important that the actor doesn’t look suspicious when he adds the dog food, it needs to be seen as a careless mistake. We will set the scene more for a date, maybe a few candles and possibly music, however we don't want this to be a distraction, we can decide whether we want to use music or not whilst filming to see if this works.
To enable our sponsorship to look professional we know a couple that would be happy to play these roles, it should create realism as they won’t feel awkward showing some romance, both of them also do A-level drama. Although it would be more realistic to have an older couple play the parts we don’t know anybody that could, as Kira and Oscar (the two that will be acting) are close friends we will easily be able to contact them to arrange dates for filming.

Locations For Sponsorship Advert

These are brief drafts of our sponsorship advert in two different locations. The issue with the first location, is the visible shelves. The action in our sponsorship is subtle and so we need to get rid of any distractions; the shelves for example. The light is also distracting; we need the light source to be out of the shot for it to look professional. A further problem is the distance from the camera to the table; the characters will be too small in the last shot and we may loose the intimacy we are trying to portray.
We think that the second location overcomes all of these problems. We could move the table closer to the camera if we feel it is not intimate enough, and perhaps further to the right so that composition is improved and professionalism is achieved.
When we film for the final piece, the tin will of course be open.

Label Designs

These are the ideas for food labels that we have created to stick on the tin of our dog food. The first picture we found but we didn't like the quality of it so we decided to find one similar to that and create it ourselves. The second picture we simply found on Google images of a dog licking their lips. We then decided that we didn't like the way that the animated dog looks, this is because we want it to be realistic and during our research we have found that most dog lables do not use images of cartoon dogs. For this reason, we have chosen the last one to use for our dog food label, it is realistic and simple.

As you can see from the examples the logos are simple and professional and want their customers to take them seriously. Therefore we have decided to go with the last image; simple and realistic, and also friendly. We also decided on the lighter version of the first yellow because it looks healthier and so more realistic.

Sponsorship Advert

This is a basic storyboard for our Sponsorship Advert.
We have done a lot of research for this advert and found that people read pictures the same way as they read text; from top left to bottom right. So for this reason, we have decided to put our logo and slogan at the bottom right.  It could be framed by the surface we see the dog food tin on (meaning we'd flip the second image horizontally), so that the logo and slogan are the last things the audience takes in.
We are going to use a pull shot from the first picture to the second.

For our dog food tin, we cannot use an existing product because there will be their own brand logo on it and that would be advertising their product. We also found that all existing product labels are full with text and we want our tin to be bold and plain, this way the audience will find it funny and easier to understand.

In terms of the dog food tin we can't use an existing product because we'd be advertising a product that didn't belong to us. Furthermore, any existing products' labels are too busy with text. For the audience to understand what's gone wrong and to find it funny; the dog food tin needs to be really obvious and therefore bold and simple. Like the one to the right for example. Because this is an existing product we will change the name Friskies to something else or perhaps not have a name at all; just DOG FOOD (using Photoshop- then printing label and sticking on to a tin).
